Hello, my partner and I are heading to Venice in a few weeks for 5 days. I've been told that within two days we will have seen all that Venice has to offer. Can anyone tell me of some good places to visit outside of Venice?
Thank you!

I'm not sure I agree that you can exhaust the possibilities of Venice in two days, there's so much to see and do, but there are certainly no shortage of tourist opportunities in the lagoon itself. Why not take a mini cruise around the islands? Murano is famous for its glass, while its little sister Burano's speciality is exquisite handmade lace. They are both within easy reach of Venice by waterbus, and there are other smaller islands like Mazzorbo and Torcello that you can explore too. To make your trip in style, hire yourself a water taxi, but make sure you agree the fare beforehand.

I agree with the above however if you wished to take a day trip out of Venice the trains are great, Padova and Verona are not far and both worth a day trip.

Here's something out of the ordinary: the Ortolan Studio housed in a 15th century palazzo in Serravalle (about 30 miles north of Venice). The Studio specializes in restoration & conservation of ancient surfaces and fine art. They've worked on the restoration of the Fenice in Venice and the Roman catacombs, to name a few. They offer workshops in fresco painting for all skill levels. You can find out more at www.ortolanstudio.com.
Buon viaggio!

There is a feature in the latest issue of Italia! magazine about boating holidays in Venice, which you may find helpful with inspiring some day trips in the area. Hope this might be some help to you. Enjoy your holiday!
Kind regards,
The Italia! team

I totally agree with Little Miss Italy that Verona makes a great day trip from Venice, if you don't mind a little travelling. I thought it was a fantastic city and all the better if you manage to visit during the summer's opera season.
