I'm really getting into my Italian cinema lately, one I watched with my Wife recently was La Vita e Bella (It's a Beautiful Life), all about how a Father kept his Son safe and amused in a German concentration camp and used his talent to keep his family connected. It's a real heart warmer and a fantastic story. Films like that are a perfect reminder of how important family is.

It certainly is a great film. I'll never forget the night that Robert Benigni won his Oscar, clambering over the seats and cheering loudly, much to the bemusement of the reserved American audience. My favourite Italian film has to be Fellini's classic La Dolce Vita, which I'd recommend to everyone.

I've never seen La Dolce Vita - I feel like I should see it though. I love La Vita e Bella - I cried buckets at the end. It's such a beautiful, unique film. A well deserved Oscar! Does anyone know of any god websites to keep abreast of new Italian films coming out in the UK? I'd like to be able to keep an eye on what was coming up.

I don't know about any websites which highlight upcoming Italian film releases. But Daniele Luchetti's My Brother is an Only Child (Mio Fratello e Figlio Unico) has just been released and is said to be really good. It's about two brothers as they hit adulthood in post-war Italy.

And I would definitely recommend that you watch La Dolce Vita. It's amazing!! And also that you check out some Rossellini's Rome Open City which is also excellent.

I loved the film 'Life is beutiful', it was so sad at the end when he get's shot, so moving, a very special great film. My recommendations of films is. 'IL Postino' (the postman) , great story, the scenery set in Southern Italy is amazing. It was very sad to hear that Massimo Troisi died very shortly after filming this great film. Another is 'Cinema Paradiso' Set in a Scillian village, the films music is fantastic. I love Salvatore as a teenager, very hansome!! Great story, a film not to be missed. Finally, The Talented Mr. Ripley, again set in Southern Italy, it makes me want take the next flight to Italy and be there. Jude Law is so hansome and plays a great part, and Matt Damon plays his part perfectly. A great film from director Anthony Manghella. Please give these films a try if you have not ever whatched them, you will not be disappointed, promise!!!

Opera singer Giuseppe Di Stefano (Pippo!) sadly died last month. He was our favourite opera singer 'la voce d'oro'. Born near Catania, Sicily 24 July 1921. We are dedicated Di Stefano Fans and is to us one of the greatest tenors in opera! We also love his Neopolitan and Scicilian songs. We have bought alot of his recordings, often singing with Maria Callas. We try to buy CD's when in Italy. I dont think that there will be another tenor as enchanting like him.

I recommend Bertolucci's 'Novecento' ('1900').

Personal histories dramatise political and social history in this story of a friendship spanning the first half of the 20th century in Italy. Very long - I saw it as a two-parter lasting about four hours -- occasionally unsubtle (or perhaps unsparing) in its depiction of left- and right-wing individuals and their politics, this is nonetheless a completely absorbing film.

I-Love-Cakes - The Talented Mr Ripley is indeed a great film, one of my favourites. I like the way it's set across different locations and captures the spirit of that era beautifully. I was sad to hear Anthony Minghella has recently passed, he was a great director who was very proud of his Italian heritage.
