Hello everyone, I am Italian, but was born in England in the 50's, my parents came from Southern Italy after the war, as there was no jobs, so sadly left Italy, and have made there home here, and still live here today.
I have been to several different parts and places in Italy with my family for holidays.
Although I understand the Italian language, I do have differculty speaking the language. as was brought up to speak english,as my parents only spoke to us in Italian, when we were small and before going to school. I am embrassed I cant speak fluently, but am quite a shy person.
Hoping to see alot more places in Italy, and am looking forward to going again soon.

I have been trying to teach myself Italian for a few years and have visited Italy quite frequently in the last 5 years. Like you I can understand more than I can say! If you like Le Marche area near Pesaro and Fano, I have an apartment which is 5 minutes walk from the beach and right on the edge of the countrside. If you are interested I will let you have some information.

Remember, anybody who says its easy to become fluent fast in a language, probably isn't as good as they think. I've lived in Sardinia, and its still takes time to get things right, I can understand pretty much everything, but it takes time to get the correct reply sorted out in your head, and by the time you've spoken it, the subject has normally, (frustrating) changed. But don't worry, practice, practice, practice, okay, you will make mistakes, but you will learn. Hope you have a wonderful time in Italy, just have a try at speaking, and wave your hands around alot. It definitely helps.

My interest in Italy comes from the fact that my great grandfather comes from Italy back in the 19th century. so this year I decided to go and see for myself. And was how shall we say blown away I have been three times so far although I do not speak Italian I can understand some if not spoken to fast! but the written word is ok much easier than French.I drive for a living [chauffuer] so although everyone drives to the limit I came across no accidents unlike here in England which seems to have total chaos in particular on fridays so perhaps the Italians have got it right?
