We moved here from Puglia in April 2008 in order to develop and grow our herd of alpacas.Hence this has been our first summer to explore and get to know the area.

It is just stunning. The coastal areas from Sapri (Campania) down through the gorgeous town of Maratea feature some of the best swimming areas I have known. The water , especially around Aquefredda and Fiumicello at Maratea is crystal clear and the beaches whether black sand or rock are very clean.

If you prefer rolling hills and majestic mountains you can explore Monte Sirino and the surrounding areas and plan your winter skiing or go further east to Matera.Lots of opportunities for walking, rafting, riding or just dog walking!

It has been hot but not too hot - 25-30 most of the time.

Basilicata is unspoint and when you visit many villages it is like stepping back in time. However the welcome we have received from the local Italians has been great and they have been so helpful and hospitable.

Our alpacas are settling in fine and love their new area!

I can recommend Basilicata as a great place for a peaceful holiday or to live.It is accessible to Naples via the A3 road and there are plenty of trains.

Happy to talk to anyone who wants to investigate!
