We have recently bought a flat in Scalea and have renovated it. Scalea is a wonderful town on the coast surrounded by mountains to the east and the Med on the west. All around it are lovely oastel towns such as Diamante and Belvedere and we are really happy to have found a holiday home in such a lovely area.
We had a holiday in Diamante many years ago. in the 80's as my parents had a apartment there. We have often thought about going back to visit again, as it was not very commercial, we seemed to be the only tourist there! , and often wonder if it has changed...
I don't think you would find it much different outside of July/August. The whole area is mainly an Italian destination in the summer. Foreign tourists seem limited to German and English older couples passing through. The area is still stuck in the 70's. Old fashioned in many ways but charming.
