Do you buy a finished villa, or start from scratch? After reading several books (great reads!) including "A Vineyard in Tuscany" and "The Reluctant Tuscan," you will get first hand knowledge of the "merry go round" of getting permits and approvals to build your dream home in Italy. That said....we will be ready willing and able to participate in, what could be a fun ride!

Didn't quite follow that post. What is important is to have the right advice from scratch. There are many cowboy operators eager to part fellow countrymen from their money. Maybe check out www.italianpropertyexpert.com as well.

Italian Property Expert...appreciate the advice...from what I understand their are "pretenders" in all fields of real estate in Italy. I've experienced those that claim they know how to sell, build or close a transaction vs those that actually have completed the job or sale...the latter are the folks I'm interested in talking to..hidden costs are a killer, especially if you have to make a snap decision from thousands of miles away. .After talking to some of the authors of books about their Tuscany building experience....I tend to favor their opinions. Living in the U.S. and hiring someone from Italy that does not come highly recommeded is tantamount to throwing the dice in Vegas!

Seems a bit of a claim to say anyone is 'the best' in any field! There are good and bad and average in all walks of life. Personal recommendation is hard to beat - and a track record.
