Two weeks in Sardinia

My friend has booked to Sardinia for two weeks this summer, flying to Olbia. She loves going to the beach but also burns easily and needs some activities and places of interest that help her to get out of the sun, any suggestions ? She will have a car and is happy to travel the north. She has also asked if I know of any Agroturismo's or something similar any suggestions ? Grazie!

Hi, if she has a car and hopefully also air con, then a trip to Castelsardo is well worth a visit. You have the first dramatic view when you arrive with the castle perched high up overlooking the sea, while the old streets wind round the castle, very atmospheric and also lovely and cool on a hot day. There are a couple of churches, one with a colourful cupola, and inside the castle there is a museum on basket weaving, this isn't overly exciting but the views from the top overlooking the sea in all directions are definitely worth the entrance fee. I hope she has a fantastic trip, if you need any other ideas let me know.

Thanks Sally, I have already pointed her in the direction of your email, and she was really pleased. Somebody has mentioned an Agroturismo close to the oldest and biggest olive tree, which looks out over a lake, I don't suppose you or indeed anybody else knows the name of it ?

Hi, have drawn a blank on your second enquiry, will ask around and see what turns up. The lake closes to Oblia is Lago dei Liscia if that helps. Good luck

Hello again, I don't know if this will help your friend, I've read about some ancient olive trees of enormous dimensions not far from Lake Omodeo (Guida alla Natura Della Sardegna) which are situated on the Campidano of Oristano, I think the one she would want is the Campidano Settentrionale which appears to be close to Milis, between Lago Olmodeo and Oristano. If she wanted to drive from Olbia, it would probably take 2/3 hours if she follows the coast road down, then across to Nuoro following the signs for Oristano. I hope that this helps with her holiday. If she needs more details, she can contact me direct at mailto:info@sardiniapropertyfinder.com">info@sardiniapropertyfinder.com

Hi Sally

Thank you so much for your help ! I will pass on all the info and your contact details to her. Next I need to sort out my own holiday. I have been to Olbia and the Costa Smeralda a few years ago and loved the beaches. I quite fancy discovering southern Sardinia next, somewhere which is close to the sea but that has a few more traditional villages than the Costa Smeralda. I have been told recently that the beaches south of Oblia are great. My local airport only does low cost flights to Oblia not Caglairi yet.

Thanks again for all your help.

Hi again, just a though, Ryan air does cheap flights to Alghero from Stanstead and I think East Midlands, if that helps?

Easyjet flies to Cagliari direct from Luton. Southern Sardinia has got some wonderful beaches, Villasimius and along that road some more and on the other side of the island there is Chia. If you want more info I am a Sardinian by birth and know all the secrets....

Hi Sally, I loveed your travel story. Sardinia is an amazing island. The west coast is so untouched and uncommercial. Happy travels again to Sardinia!! Best Wishes, Angelo

Hi Sally, We too have really love Sardinia - or the little we have seen of it. We visited Cala Gonone and Costa Smerelda two years ago and are planning now planning a trip with our 1-year-old daughter and my in-laws. We loved Cala Gonone so are tempted to go back there again but also feel we should explore more of Sardinia. We fly into Olbia on the evening of July 15 and leave on the afternoon of July 19th so not too much time. Do you have any kid-friendly recommendations for activities and housing? Many thanks, Lisa
