Does anyone please have any advice on must sees, places to go and things to do on a three day visit to Venice?

Thanks, in advance!

Mike

There is so much to see and do in Venice that you will be spoilt for choice in a three-day visit, that's for sure. It really depends on whether you're a culture vulture, like shopping, good food and wine, or a mix of everything! Any good guide book will give you the must-sees/must-dos for your visit, but make sure you get a short-term season ticket for the water bus service - you can book it in advance - and it's the best and most scenic way of getting around Venice and with the travel card you can hop on and off all day! Go to www.alilaguna.it for all the info you need.

Try and stay somewhere near St Mark's Square. It's not a huge city, but when I stayed I found it wonderful to be able to step outside and be within easy reach of the main sights. There are lots of B&Bs on quiet side streets, so you won't be in the thick of things too much, either. I'll try and dig out the name of the place I stayed when I was there a couple of years ago. As for things to do, there's so much! I know some people might disagree, but I recommend splashing out on a pricy drink in St Mark's Square. You pay for the location, but it's perfect for an afternoon of people-spotting in style!

Visit the Campanile in St Marks Square and take the lift to the top, the views are amazing and you can easily identify most of the historic buildings and landmarks. The market by the Rialto Bridge is interesting - very fishy! A Gondola trip is pricy and not very exciting but it has to be done. The story of the Jewish district is poignant and the area is very worthy of a visit. Have an early evening drink in Harry's Bar and try to book a table and eat there if you can. The bar is small and gets very crowded with some interesting characters. We have found Venice very walkable and full of interesting alleys and buildings.

Thanks for all the information, forum friends - this is exactly what I'm going to need when we visit Venice later this year: my first time in this mysterious, magical city. I can hardly wait...

I'd love to see a list of unmissable eating in Venice experiences on here...I might just start a thread, and see what you lucky people who've been before come up with!

Thanks again, everyone.

Hi There. Do try the Cantinone Storico in Dorsoduro on the Fondamenta Bragadin facing the Rio San Vio. (Turn left after coming off the Academia Bridge by the Academia, turn 1st left into Rio Tera Foscarini di Sant Agnese, and carry on walking, cross over the Ponte Forner - Campo San Vio is on your left, turn right as soon as you come off the bridge and you will see it.)Alessandro the owner is a wonderful character. We love this old restaurant so much we celebrated our Silver Wedding lunch here as did my daughter when she married in Venice 2 years ago. Huge selection of Venetian specialities, great food warmth and ambience and the truly great character of Alessandro make this a great place to spend time. It has tables on the canal and if you are there in the winter it is warm and cosy. Not 5 mins walk from the Academia Bridge ! Wonderful - just go - if Alessandro can please the Venetains he can please everyone !!!
