Hi,

Im taking the family on holiday to Piedmont and we are staying in the Albi, Asti area. Can anyone make some suggestions on what to see, where to go?

There are many fantastic places to go in Piedmont. Turin is a must - even though the outskirts of the city are quite industrial the centre is beautiful and packed with fantastic cafes and restaurants.

Alba is worth a visit, especially when the food markets are in full swing.

Bra is worth visiting as the home of the Slow Food movement - lots of nice restaurants there.

If you love wine then go to the town of La Mora and from there into Barolo itself - there a very large enoteca/wine museum in the castle which is great to go to. You can taste a number of the wines there for around €3 per tasting (excellent value for money given that it's Barolo!).

The mountains to the south of La Mora make for an excellent drive if you fancy getting out and about - you can even head a bit further into Liguria and visit the seaside - it's only about 1.5hrs from where you're staying.

So - lots and lots to see and do in Piedmont - my favourite area in Italy (and no, I'm not even from there!).
